Founded by Bipratip Dhar in 2002, Epsilon is a multidisciplinary architecture and design firm known for its innovative, sustainable, and client-centric approach. With over two decades of experience, the studio delivers diverse projects—from residences and commercial complexes to hospitality and institutional spaces—combining creativity, precision, and contextual sensitivity in every design.
Tucked within a premium gated enclave near Kolkata’s Eastern Metropolitan Bypass, this residence by Epsilon is envisioned as a modern sanctuary for a large joint family. Designed on a 1,547-square-metre corner plot, the Ground + 3 structure harmoniously blends Vaastu principles with contemporary luxury, creating a calm, nature-embracing retreat amidst an urban setting.
Oriented northwards, the home is carefully planned to allow every major living space and terrace to receive soft northern light throughout the day. This thoughtful orientation enhances comfort while maintaining energy efficiency. The circulation is organized through two staircases—an elegant main core on the northwest and a discreet service core on the southeast—ensuring smooth movement for residents and staff alike.
Architecture and landscape are designed in seamless dialogue. A generous north-facing garden extends into terraces and culminates in a rooftop retreat shaded by a steel pergola, forming a vertical progression of green spaces. The façade, articulated with dark wood, grey, and beige aluminium panels, adds rhythm and depth to the built volume. Its bold, asymmetrical openings reflect the dynamic spatial layering within, giving the home an identity that is both striking and sophisticated.
The ground floor, designed for the parents, exudes quiet elegance. A marble-inlaid foyer featuring chevron veneer ceilings leads into a double-height living area that opens to the garden. At its heart lies a tranquil glass courtyard—an oasis that introduces light, air, and a meditative stillness to the interiors. The private bedrooms, curated with warmth and restraint, showcase a refined material palette and thoughtful detailing.
Throughout the home, interiors balance modern minimalism and understated opulence. Crafted ceilings conceal services for a clean, seamless look, while furniture sourced from Italy and India enhances the sense of global sophistication grounded in local craftsmanship.
In essence, this residence exemplifies Epsilon’s philosophy of harmonizing form, function, and feeling. It is not merely a house but a sanctuary—where architectural precision, natural light, and greenery converge to foster serenity, connection, and contemporary elegance for generations to come.
