Jannat Vasi Interior Design is a Mumbai-based boutique studio specializing in luxury residential, commercial, and hospitality projects. Led by award-winning Interior Architect Jannat Vasi, the practice blends refined aesthetics with functional planning, global sensibilities, and bespoke detailing, creating distinctive, personality-driven spaces celebrated across leading international design publications.
Among the many remarkable qualities that define this two-storey Mumbai duplex, it is the arresting views that truly anchor its identity. Inspired by the ever-changing moods of the ocean outside, the home embraces a palette of soft blues, fluid lines, and textures that echo coral reefs. Metallic accents capture the shimmer of sunlight on water, bringing a dynamic radiance to an otherwise serene setting.
When the designers first entered the space, it existed only as a bare framework. Over time, it evolved into a highly personalised home, thoughtfully shaped around the lifestyle and preferences of each family member. For Vasi, every project begins with a single, defining focal point. Here, that genesis was the ribbon-like staircase—an architectural gesture that instantly transformed the home’s emotional landscape. Unfurling across the walls with sculptural grace, it mimics movement and vitality, almost like a living organism weaving through the heart of the duplex.
Creating this dramatic centrepiece came with its share of challenges. The staircase and kitchen needed to exchange positions entirely, prompting a complete reworking of the structural drawings. Despite the complexity, the result is seamless—an effortless flow that belies the intricacy behind its execution.
Materiality plays a key role in crafting the home’s warmth and sophistication. White oak veneer wraps the walls in gentle warmth, while White Michelangelo marble extends across the floors and ceilings, lending a sense of lightness and visual elevation. The monochromatic staircase introduces a bold, masculine edge, softened by romantic tones woven through the wall murals, rugs, and smaller accessories.
The dining area becomes an expressive moment, grounded by a striking cobalt blue table. Bespoke furniture—crafted locally from rose quartz, semi-precious stones, walnut, brass, bouclé, and plush velvets—adds richness and tactility. Soft furnishings introduce comfort, while playful elements, like the sheep and rabbit chair, add touches of whimsy.
A strong connection with the client, sparked through a previous referral, allowed the design process to unfold with trust, clarity, and creative freedom. For Vasi, this harmony is central to the project’s success. As she reflects, “That is the thing about beautiful design; you don’t tire from it—it is timeless.
