The client’s brief was straightforward yet aspirational — a home that embodied minimalism at its finest while visually converging with the sky. The design intent was to craft a structure with strong architectural character, abundant natural light, and comfortable niches for reading, relaxation, and indoor–outdoor living.
Rooted in a zero-maintenance philosophy, the home incorporates durable materials and resilient detailing. The boundary wall features dry stone cladding with a scooped slab profile, creating the illusion of elegantly bent stones. The gate, crafted from porcelain, ensures longevity with its scratch-resistant and water- and termite-proof qualities. The driveway integrates directional lighting that doubles as mood illumination after dusk.
The façade takes shape by subtracting smaller volumes from larger ones, allowing daylight to permeate deep into the interiors. The cantilevered terrace — a three-metre-wide powder-coated aluminium web — forms the home’s most dramatic element, designed to host intimate gatherings. The residence achieves its sky-convergence concept through fibre-optic lighting embedded into the white-painted front façade, resembling twinkling stars. Notably, this is the first residence in India to adopt fibre optics in its façade. All exterior lighting — planter lights, fibre optics, and art-installation lights — can be controlled through a single system, transforming the house during festivities.
Entry is through a stilt level that prioritizes lush landscaping over conventional parking, which is relocated to the rear. A grand double-height entrance, sweeping main door, water feature with stepping stones, and a champak tree create a serene yet opulent welcome. Functional spaces such as electrical rooms, laundry, servant quarters, and a segregated service staircase reinforce privacy and hospitality-driven planning.
The basement is envisioned for leisure, featuring two guest bedrooms, a pool, spa, gym, and strategically designed sunken gardens for natural light and ventilation. The ground floor hosts formal and informal living zones, dining, kitchen, and powder room. Upper levels accommodate luxurious bedrooms, walk-in closets, a kids’ room, lounge, and views to the terrace garden.
With passive cooling strategies, insulated cavity walls, high-performance fenestration, shading devices, on-grid solar panels, and greens attached to every toilet, the residence marries sustainability with luxury. Todd House emerges as an intergenerational retreat — a benchmark of experiential, timeless living.
