Hartmut Wurster is a German architect and trained carpenter, with a career that bridges continents and cultures. He studied architecture at the University of Dresden in Germany and the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece, bringing together diverse European design influences. Early in his career, Hartmut worked with Maier + Partners in Heidelberg, Germany, where he contributed to projects ranging from residential developments and industrial facilities to innovative shared living concepts.
In 2010, he joined the renowned design firm Blocher Partners, based in Stuttgart, Germany. A year later, he moved to Ahmedabad, India, to establish and lead the company’s presence there. Under his direction, the Ahmedabad office has grown into a 20-member strong team, undertaking a wide range of projects—including exclusive residences, mid- and high-rise commercial and residential towers, mixed-use developments, and institutional buildings.
Hartmut has been instrumental in shaping several landmark projects in Ahmedabad, such as Mondeal Retail Park, Mondeal Square, Mondeal Heights, Satya One, and Skydeck Select. His work is characterized by a focus on innovation, sustainability, and the seamless integration of architecture into its urban context.
An advocate for green building practices from early on, Hartmut is deeply committed to environmental responsibility in design. He is also passionate about contemporary art and is the founder of ZOCA (Zone of Contemporary Art), a platform dedicated to promoting emerging Indian artists.
Hartmut continues to champion architecture that is thoughtful, sustainable, and culturally resonant.
In the culturally rich city of Bhuj, Gujarat, where architecture resonates with the timeless spirit of the Kutch region, Blocher Partners India led by Principal Architect Hartmut Wurster has masterfully created Bhuj Villas and Clubhouse — a contemporary yet rooted residential development. Inspired by the organic beauty of traditional earthen structures and the natural landscape, the project offers a sustainable, soul-enriching living experience. Set on the outskirts of Bhuj, the complex comprises 650 personalized bungalows and an expansive clubhouse designed as a retreat cocoon. Emphasizing seamless transitions from indoor to outdoor spaces, the design celebrates natural materials like terrazzo, Indian marble, teakwood, and reclaimed timber. Built in collaboration with the Hunnarshala Foundation, the project integrates state-of-the-art construction techniques with ancient craftsmanship. With arched pathways, lush courtyards, and a focus on light, greenery, and human scale, Bhuj Villas redefines luxury living in Kutch, offering a timeless, harmonious connection with nature.
