Untitled Design, led by Joya Nandurdikar and Amrita Guha, is a multidisciplinary practice redefining innovation in architecture and interiors for over two decades. The studio blends contemporary design with traditional craftsmanship, collaborating with artisans to revive indigenous crafts and create culturally rooted, contextually rich spaces that tell immersive design narratives.
Perched on the 30th floor of Kolkata’s tallest residential tower, Pratha is a multi-generational home that gracefully bridges the past and the present. Designed as a tribute to familial legacy, it reinterprets tradition through the lens of contemporary maximalism, blending Parisian Art Deco influences with Indian materials, craftsmanship, and storytelling.
At its core, the residence celebrates heritage and individuality—a tapestry woven from the family’s memories, travels, and values. The design’s layered aesthetic unfolds through refined details, luxurious finishes, and a rich interplay of textures. The entrance lobby, adorned with slate stone and brass inlays, sets a tone of understated grandeur, leading into a series of meticulously composed spaces. Every room tells its own story—mirror-panelled bedrooms frame panoramic views of the Ganges and Victoria Memorial, while curated artworks and bespoke furniture by Furgonomics elevate the interiors into a dialogue between design and emotion.
The material palette evokes both elegance and comfort. Lime plaster walls, distressed wood, and soft metallic accents create an ambience that feels timeless yet tactile. Subtle nods to European classicism—such as French wainscoting and custom rug-work—are thoughtfully juxtaposed with Indian sensibilities through antiques sourced from Chor Bazaar and artisanal craftsmanship. The result is a space that is at once cosmopolitan and deeply rooted in its cultural context.
Accessibility and inclusivity play a pivotal role in the home’s design. Thoughtful interventions such as wider doorways, an embedded hospital bed, and a private lift ensure comfort and ease for elderly family members, allowing every generation to experience the home with dignity and independence.
Beyond its aesthetic richness, Pratha embodies the spirit of continuity—where architecture becomes a vessel for memory, emotion, and evolution. It is not merely a residence but a living archive of culture, craft, and care, where every object, texture, and proportion reflects an ongoing dialogue between legacy and modernity.
In essence, Pratha stands as a poetic expression of timeless beauty and belonging—a home that honors its lineage while embracing the sophistication and soul of contemporary living.
