Kembhavi Architecture Foundation, established in 1972 in Hubli, is renowned for its eco-sensitive, pioneering green design approach. Led by six co-principal architects across Hubli and Bangalore, the firm delivers diverse projects spanning healthcare, hospitality, housing, commercial and institutional sectors, supported by its integrated design-build arm, August Constructions.
This residence is envisioned as a modern tropical sanctuary, where architecture, landscape, and light seamlessly merge into one fluid experience. The design intent was to craft a home that breathes—one that stays open to its surroundings, adapts effortlessly to climate, and remains in constant dialogue with nature. Every space is shaped by this principle of openness and sensitivity, ensuring that the home feels alive, responsive, and always connected to the outdoors.
The architectural silhouette is defined by its signature sloped roofs, a contemporary interpretation of classic tropical forms. Beyond their aesthetic presence, these pitched roofs play a vital environmental role: they channel rainwater smoothly during monsoons, reduce direct heat gain, and introduce a warm visual rhythm through their elegantly detailed wooden undersides. Their sweeping form creates pockets of shade and allows the home to remain naturally cool and comfortable throughout the year.
Expansive glazed openings blur the line between indoor and outdoor life. These transparent planes invite natural light deep into the interiors while framing the surrounding tropical greens as ever-changing views. As the day unfolds, shifting shadows, reflections, and filtered sunlight transform the landscape into a living artwork. Water features, lush planting, and gentle breezeways amplify the sensory stillness, lending the home the quiet atmosphere of a refined resort.
Inside, the spaces are anchored in openness, warmth, and thoughtful detailing. Crafted joinery adds depth and character, while textured finishes enrich the material palette with a subtle tactility. Sculptural lighting suspended beneath the pitched ceiling accentuates the volume of the spaces, creating an interplay of scale and intimacy. Each design gesture—from softened corners to seamless transitions—enhances flow and reinforces the home’s retreat-like ambience.
Though rooted in contemporary sensibilities, the ethos of the home is shaped by the timeless wisdom of tropical living. Climate, context, and comfort come together in harmonious balance, resulting in a residence that feels both modern and deeply grounded. This is a home designed not just for shelter, but for serenity.
