Nestled in the historic city of Amritsar, Residence Ondra by 23DC Architects unfolds as a serene conversation between architecture, light, water, and landscape. The home, designed in an L-shaped configuration, responds harmoniously to its site conditions—maximizing natural daylight, cross ventilation, and climatic efficiency while retaining a strong sense of privacy and enclosure.
The experience of the house begins with a linear waterbody that meanders along the built form, creating a gentle, reflective axis that ties together all the major spaces. Acting as both a visual and sensory connector, it establishes a tranquil rhythm that defines the residence’s atmosphere. This water element leads the way into the home’s core, inviting one into spaces that open, merge, and flow effortlessly, reinforcing the seamless relationship between the built and natural environments.
At the heart of the design stands the Crystal Volume — a striking double-height glazed structure that forms the central gathering space. It blurs the boundaries between inside and outside, offering uninterrupted views of the surrounding lawn and inner courtyard. The play of light and shadow across the glass surface transforms this space throughout the day, giving it a sculptural and ever-changing quality.
The spatial planning encourages both interaction and retreat. The formal and family living rooms, dining area, and kitchen are visually and spatially connected, opening onto landscaped courtyards that foster openness and dialogue with nature. On the first floor, the design transitions into social and private zones—a lounge with a bar and theatre anchors the social life of the home, while the bedrooms extend into balconies and courtyards, framing intimate moments of light and greenery.
Materiality defines the architectural language of Residence Ondra. The use of glass, stone, and muted natural tones enhances tactility and timelessness. Each surface and junction is carefully detailed, merging modern restraint with warmth and craftsmanship.
Ultimately, Residence Ondra embodies the essence of contemporary Indian living—a space that balances openness with serenity, luxury with simplicity, and architecture with nature. It stands as an architectural statement that transforms everyday living into an experience of reflection, harmony, and light.
