Ekaa Villa by Kunal Shah, SPK Valo is a finalist in the Interior Lighting category at the LiDAI Lighting Awards 2024 — a serene lighting design that captures the soul of intimate living through visual comfort and architectural clarity.
Tucked into a quiet neighborhood in Hyderabad, Ekaa Villa is a 6000 sq. ft. residence designed for a young couple seeking calm, warmth, and intentionality. The lighting design by SPK Valo responds to that desire with rare sensitivity—crafting a visual language that slows down time, embraces architectural elements, and transforms light into an emotional experience.
From the moment you step into the entrance foyer—where a soft glow highlights an indoor plant and accent chair—the atmosphere is meditative. SPK Valo’s approach was to make architecture the hero, keeping visible light fixtures to a minimum and allowing composition, contrast, and comfort to take center stage.
In the double-height living space, traditional chandeliers are replaced by light that softly grazes the art behind the sofa. This technique not only emphasizes the artwork but also provides ambient lighting with exceptional visual comfort. In the dining area, ambient illumination is created by bouncing light off art accents, while a sculptural fixture delicately highlights the table setting.
Throughout the home—bedrooms, terraces, and decks—the lighting is layered, deliberate, and emotionally grounded. On the terrace deck, landscape features are brought to life at night without overpowering brightness. The entire system runs on DALI-based controls, enabling precise dimming and consistent 2700K warmth.
