Insights from the ICA Creative Minds Next 2025 Edition

Architecture competitions are more than just design contests—they’re a platform to showcase vision, strategy, and storytelling. 1. Choose the Right Category Thoughtfully

ICA Creative Minds Next 2025 offers conceptual and ongoing project categories across Architecture, Interior Design, and Urban/Landscape.

Before submitting, assess where your project fits best. A design still on paper? Go conceptual. Already under construction? The ongoing category is your arena.

Pro tip: Ensure your ongoing project is scheduled for completion post 31st August 2025.

2. Let the Concept Speak Loud and Clear

Judges aren’t just looking for beautiful forms—they want to see clarity of thought.

  • What’s your project’s central idea?
  • Why did you choose this direction?
  • How does it solve a problem or spark imagination?

A strong concept note can often be the difference between good and great.

3. Nail the Visual Storytelling

Your images are your loudest voice. Curate your visuals to communicate narrative and impact:

  • For conceptual projects: include clean 3D renders, sketches, diagrams.
  • For ongoing work: show before-after comparisons and site photos to display progress.
Avoid cluttered sheets—let each image breathe and tell a story.

4. Focus on Design Purpose + Practicality

Judges assess both vision and viability. Especially for ongoing projects, explain:

  • The client brief
  • Design decisions based on context, climate, users
  • How your design addresses real-world constraints with creativity

Balance imagination with realism.

5. Keep Your Submission Clean and Anonymous

Submissions must not include:

  • Firm names
  • Architect names
  • Watermarks or credits on images

Focus on the work, not the identity.

6. Stay Within Word Limits but Make It Impactful

Each section—concept note, design overview, etc.—has a word limit. Use that space wisely. Judges appreciate brevity with substance.

7. Remember the Basics (and the Deadlines!)

  • Make sure your documents are properly labeled
  • Images must be under 6MB and under 3600px

8. Think Long-Term: What Will This Win Do for You?

Winners get more than trophies—they earn national recognition, a feature at FOAID, digital presence, interviews, networking, and a place in the design conversation.
